A low-openness sunscreen for west-facing glass
Most Sunset Beach lounges take the sun almost horizontally through the last hour or two before it drops behind Table Mountain — the same hour most households are actually using the room. A 3-5% openness sunscreen is the default we land on here, lower than you'd typically spec on an east- or south-facing street, because the glare is worse and the view behind it is the whole reason the glass is that size. It cuts the low light and the heat without turning the mesh into a second wall.
Blockout, and the double-roller answer for after dark
A sunscreen mesh does almost nothing for the opposite problem: a lit room on full display to the beach path once the sun that made the view worth having has gone down. A single blockout roller solves that outright for bedrooms. For open-plan living rooms that want the view by day and real privacy by night, a double roller pairs a blockout fabric behind the sunscreen on the same bracket — one blind for each half of the day, no swapping and no compromise on either brief.
Fitted for salt air, not just the window
Chain and cord tensioners here are corrosion-resistant as standard, not an upgrade — an untreated chain seizes fast this close to the water. Aluminium tubes and cassette pelmets colour-matched to the frame keep the line clean on a frameless glass wall, and wide spans either split with a central join or run motorised and linked, so no single chain is carrying three or four metres of fabric on its own. The same salt-and-wind logic that shapes an exterior spec in Bloubergstrand or Big Bay applies just as much to the hardware sitting quietly inside the room.
The window that gets measured twice here isn't the odd shape — it's the one facing straight into the evening sun, because the openness percentage has to be right the first time.
